Sundance has an amazing personality! He is extremely curious about everything and is always the first one to greet you at the gate. He eats up all the attention and especially LOVES his tummy rubs. He is affectionately called "Sunny" or "Sunny D". I must say, he is definitely the apple of my eye! I love this boy!
Sundance is only ridden by very confident riders. But he is everyone's favorite pal to hang around. He often works with participants who are afraid of horses. His curiosity and personality make it easy for folks to like him and feel comfortable with him.
His favorite things in life are treats (or anything food related) and butt scratches. He likes to back his bumper up for them. It doesn't matter what you're doing, if you're building a fence or working on the shelter, or if you're shoveling poop, he will be there with his butt in your face waiting for you to give him his scratches. Once you start scratching him, he won't let you stop. You could scratch him until your fingers are worn down to stubs and he'll still expect more.
He totally thinks with his stomach and his rear end! He has the most clownish personality we've ever seen on a horse. We guarantee you'll fall in love with this boy!
In 2012 I started working with him extensively to ride him more. I used a combination of verbal and physical cues to help him trust me to be his eyes. By the end of the summer I was using him pretty regularly. The first time I took him into the corn field with the other horses and riders and he heard those horses take off running he wanted to go! We practiced trotting and he even cantered a few times. It is an amazing experience to ride a horse that is completely blind.
