Muskeg Valley Ranch has made an incredible donation to us! They have given us a yearling Bashkir Curly Horse named Spirit of a Rebel. The Bashkir breed is a hypoallergenic breed of horse. We are so excited to have Spirit to use with children who have allergies. One of our volunteers, Amanda has already given him the A-OK as far as her allergies go!
We love his curly coat. Check out the curly q's in his ears! And the way his eyelashes curl up is too cute!
Spirit has quite a personality! He is very inquisitive, bold, smart, and so silly! He wants to know everyone who comes to the farm and always wants to be part of the action. He is friendly with all the horses in the pen and you'll find him hanging out with everyone throughout the day. He loves to explore the world with his mouth and frequently picks pockets, unties shoes, takes halters and ropes out of your hands, and spins halters around in circles.
We've been working with Spirt on his ground manners for years and he has a lot of his foundation built. We're in the training stages of riding and things are going well. I think he will finish out easily and be ready for the program soon. He is a great little size at 14 hands and has a slight frame and he is very athletic and fun!
We have recently started Spirit undersaddle. The first time I put a saddle on him it was almost as if he said "It is about time!". He acted like it was second nature for him to be tacked up and handled everything very well. His response was pretty much the same the first time we put a rider on his back! We'll keep you updated on his progress.
