Meet Our Therapy Horses (page 2)
Llewis is our resident llama. He was given to
us by Randy Krueger of Spectrum Ranch in
January of 2006. He is an amazing animal!
We've all really enjoyed learning about his
species and making friends with him. At first
the horses didn't know what to make of him,
but now he is part of the herd and you can tell
he really likes it here.
He loves to go for walks around our property -
in fact, he gets so excited, we call him "Twinkle
Toes" because of the way he prances on his
walks. It takes some time for Llewis to feel
comfortable with new people, but if you take
that time, he is the coolest friend to have! If you
want to stop out and see Llewis be sure to
bring carrots and lettuce - his two favorite
treats!
The picture on the far left shows Llewis
meeting one of our wonderful volunteers, Mike
Chesky. It is always hard to take pictures of
Llewis because he likes to be right in the
camera!
Llewis
Cllark is our second Llama. He was donated to
us by Mike Chesky (in picture above with
Llewis) in February of 2007. Mike is really
fascinated by the llamas and he wanted to get
Llewis a friend, so he found Cllark!
Cllark was shown in 4-H and at a petting zoo.
He is used to a lot of people and attention. He
is quite the character! He is very sweet and
affectionate and his trust of people is helping
Llewis come along even faster.
Llewis and Cllark are inseparable. They are
like two peas in a pod and they are never far
from each other.
They love to go for walks and explore the area.
They're so curious that it can be a chore
keeping them in the pasture! Neither have any
qualms about just walking out and taking a look
around!
Cllark
Pickle is a 10 year old shetland pony gelding. In his past life he was a lead line pony at a petting
zoo in Door County. He is absolutely adorable! The kids here have been all over him since he
came. He takes treats very sweetly and loves the attention he's getting. He will be great for the
smaller children who are intimidated by the bigger horses that we have.
We'll be working with Pickle to determine his temperament and training. We'll also be working on
his ground manners and freshening him up under saddle. We'll post more information and
pictures soon!
Pickle
Jazz is an 8 year old thoroughbred gelding. He is
a large horse, at 16hh and has a very stately
presence. He and Eddie could be twins if they
were the same color!
We received Jazz, along with Les just before
Thanksgiving of 2007 from the American
Standardbred Adoption Program (ASAP). We'll
post more information and additional pictures as
it warms up and we start working with him more.
Update 4/08: We think Jazz may have been
misunderstood in his previous homes. His size
can be intimidating to people who don't have
strong horsemanship skills. We've had the
opportunity to get him under saddle in the round
pen and on the trail. Jazz is proving to be an
absolute gentleman and is very well trained. He
is an amazing animal to ride. His personality is a
huge bonus! He is one of the biggest clowns
we've ever encountered and is in your face
wanting love and attention all the time.
Jazz
Les is a 20 year old Quarter Horse gelding.
He was given to us with Jazz (above) from
Sue Wellman at ASAP. He has about the
sweetest personality we've ever seen on a
horse.
He is a smaller quarter horse and will be
wonderful for beginner riders and younger
children. He is shy at first, but once you have
him haltered he's great. His ground
manners are sound and he is very
responsive to even young children. We use
him often to assist participants with guided
imagery while on his back. He stands
perfectly still, not moving a muscle for long
periods of time while we are working with
individuals to overcome their fears.
We'll continue to post more information on
Les and add pictures.
*The parade photo was taken while he was
living in the Milwaukee area with his owner
before ASAP.

Muskeg Valley Ranch has made an
incredible donation to us! They have
given us a yearling Bashkir Curly
Horse named Spirit of a Rebel. The
Bashkir breed is a hypoallergenic
breed of horse. We are so excited to
have Spirit to use with children who
have allergies. One of our volunteers,
Amanda has already given him the
A-OK as far as her allergies go!
It will be a few years before Spirit is
under saddle, but in the mean time, he
is getting a lot of love and attention as
everyone is very curious about him.
The llamas sure think he's cool, too!
He is very smart and is quickly
learning all there is to know about
being around a lot of people. We'll
keep you posted on Spirit's progress.
